Runner-up result earns Harley second-place in NLS Cup 3 standings
Harley Haughton lies a superb second in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie Cup 3 Championship after finishing an excellent second in the six-hour ADAC Ruhr Pokal Rennen, the sixth round of the series, last weekend (3 Aug).
Haughton with co-drivers Mads Gravsen (Denmark) and Björn Simon (Germany) swept their #949 Sorg Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS home just 46-seconds behind the winning car in the shortened German race staged in difficult conditions.
Harley started from fifth-position on the multi-class grid, impressively making up places but the race was stopped after the opening lap due to a multi-car collision caused by torrential rain.
Racing resumed with four-hours left on the clock with Harley progressing up to third-place, closing rapidly on the leaders, Gravsen moving into second after a pit-stop with Simon comfortably retaining the position to the chequered flag.
The next NLS race on the demanding 15-mile track is in October.
Harley Said:
“I’m very proud of our second-place finish and combined with the fact that there were no mistakes from anyone, we can all be satisfied that our hard work is paying off.
“I feel full of confidence that we can hold on to second-place in the championship – unfortunately the team leading the Cup 3 Championship are too far ahead. Now having finished second twice and third this year, we’ll be hunting for our first NLS win!”
“It’s a difficult weekend to look back on and celebrate, as we are all still thinking about those involved in an unfortunate incident in the paddock on Friday. I hope that the investigation into what happened will give us ways to continue making motorsport safer for everyone.”
